Act I
"O she doth teach the torches to burn bright!
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
As a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear-
Beauty to rich for use, for earth too dear:
So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows,
As yonder lady o'er her fellows shows.
The measure done, I'll watch her place of stand,
And touching hers, make blessed my rude hand.
Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight!
For a ne'er saw true beauty till this night." (I.v.43-52)
The reason I chose this quote as being most significant in Act I is because it is the first time that Romeo sets eyes on Juliet, and therefore is when he first begins to fall in love with her. His description of her is very descriptive and it is clear that he is interested in her. I think that this quote represents the beginning of the play's plot and shows the way that Romeo views Juliet, and is therefore significant.
