Part One : The Tributes
During the first part of The Hunger Games, the characters are introduced and the plot begins to form. It begins with Katniss' life and how she hunts to support her family. It also introduces her friend and hunting partner, Gale Hawthorne. In the first chapter, the books explains the reaping ceremony and what is to take place with it.
During the reaping, Katniss' younger sister, Prim, was chosen to participate in The Hunger Games but Katniss, being very protective of her younger sister, volunteers to go instead. The boy tribute from District 12 is Peeta Mellark, with whom Katniss expresses fond memories of. Peeta and Katniss are then sent on a train to the Capital to prepare for the games. The reason that the title of this part is "The Tributes" is because it is the part in which the reader is introduced to the tributes, and it sets the scene for the next part. The below plot graph signifies the slow beginning of Part 1, and where is begins to reach the climax when it gets exciting. I chose to end of the plot graph at a high point, because the excitement is still going, and will continue into Part 11.
